The Consulate-General in Adelaide held the Meeting of Telecom Fraud Prevention

On May 15th, the Consulate-General in Adelaide convened a meeting with Chinese Student Association representatives from University of Adelaide, University of South Australia, and Flinders University themed on "Beware of Telecom Fraud and Enhance Safety of Chinese Students Studying Abroad".

At the meeting, acting Consul-General Yuncai Mei briefed student representatives the current situation of increasingly rampant internet and telecommunication frauds. He listed different types of scam in which pretend to be officers of Chinese Embassies and Consulates, police, border protection, or staff from delivery and credit card companies, and conduct frauds in the disguise currency exchange, purchasing services and tuition fees services. The Chinese Consulate has repeatedly reminded local Chinese, especially students to increase their awareness of the scam through multiple channels such as local newspapers, official website, official WeChat account, and other social media, and helped deal with several telecommunication fraud cases targeting Chinese students. Mr. Mei hopes Chinese students fully understand the seriousness of improve their awareness of all kinds of scam, protect personal information, and pay close attention to the safety reminders issued by the Consulate-General, keep in contact with families and stay calm in emergencies. The student representatives are encouraged to forward relevant information to other Chinese students to take precautions. The wider it spreads, the less likely the criminals will succeed.

The Consul in charge briefed some cases that occurred to Chinese students recently. The student representatives said that they have had a more clear knowledge of the telecommunication frauds through this meeting and they would remind their fellow students to take precautions.
