On September 7th, Acting Consul-General Yuncai Mei was invited to attend the Opening Ceremony of “One Mountain, One River, One Sage: Treasures from the Shandong Library” held at the State Library of South Australia. Mr. Steven Marshall, Premier of South Australia, Ms. Guolin Li, Deputy Director of the Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Mr. Mei jointly unveiled the exhibition. Nearly 200 people from all sectors in South Australia attended the ceremony.

Ms. Yonghui Li, Deputy Director of the Shandong Library introduced the historical value and cultural connotations of the important items on display.

The guests were deeply attracted by China’s long history and rich culture, and all took it as an excellent opportunity to understand and appreciate Chinese tradition, history and culture.

The exhibition is a part of the ongoing “Shandong Culture Week” held in Adelaide. “One mountain, one river and one sage” refers to Mount Tai, the Yellow River and Confucius. The three have a pivotal position in the inheritance and development of Chinese civilization. The exhibition features 172 rare pieces from the Shandong Library including the copy of murals of Emperor travelling in the Song Dynasty, the Tibetan scriptures printed in the Ming Dynasty, and coloured paintings of stories "Liao Zhai" from the Qing Dynasty.
