Consul-General HE Lanjing Attended the 2019 Chinatown Lunar New Year Street Party

On February 9, 2019, Consul-General HE Lanjing attended the 2019 Chinatown Lunar New Year Street Party. Mr. Hieu Van Le, Governor of South Australia, Mr. Steven Marshall, Premier of South Australia, Mr. Simon Birmingham, Federal Minister for Trade and Tourism of Australia, Ms. Penny Wong, Federal Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. David Ridgway, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment of South Australia, Ms. Katrine Hildyard, representing the State Leader of the Opposition, Ms. Jing Lee, Assistant Minister to the Premier, Ms. Sandy Verschoor, Lord Mayor of Adelaide, members of Consular Corps of South Australia, guests from various circles, representatives of overseas Chinese and thousands of local people participated.

In the speech, Consul-General HE Lanjing extended her festive greetings to the guests, the representatives of local Chinese, Chinese students, Chinese enterprises, Chinese tourists and friends from all walks of life in South Australia. Consul-General HE said that the annual Street Party is a grand display of Chinese culture. The colourful celebrations not only add more Chinese elements to South Australia, but also provide an ideal window for Australians to learn more about Chinese culture. The Consulate-General will continue to work with the State Government and all those who care for and support the China-Australia friendship to make greater contributions to its development.

 

Premier Marshall highly appreciated the important contributions made by local Chinese to the economic growth and multicultural prosperity of South Australia, as well as its friendly relations with China. He said a strengthened relationship with China is very important to South Australias economy. He was quite pleased with the establishment of the Chinese Consulate-General here and would be willing to work with the Consulate-General to continuously promote the practical cooperation and exchanges in various fields between China and South Australia to push the friendly relations to a new level.

 

Minister Birmingham congratulated on the success of the Chinese New Year Street Party, stressed the importance of strengthening trade and economic ties with China. He also appreciated China established the Consulate-General in South Australia, and looked forward to enhancing trade and economic cooperation with China in the future.

The Chinese New Year Street Party is an annual temple-fair-style celebration organised by the local Chinese association Chinatown Adelaide. It features cultural performances and folk activities, which lasted one day. This time marks the 16th Street party, as an increasing number of participants has been attracted year by year.
