On June 21, Acting Consul-General Wang Hongsun attended the launch ceremony for China Eastern Airlines' direct route between Shanghai and Adelaide. South Australian Minister for State Development Chris Picton, Minister for Tourism Emily Bourke, and representatives from China Eastern Airlines and Adelaide Airport also attended. The event was covered by Xinhua News Agency, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), Channel 7, and Channel 9 Australia.

Wang expressed the appreciation to the relevant authorities and dedicated teams in both China and South Australia.

" It is your hard work, commitment and efficiency that have made this achievement possible.

The continued progress of China-Australia relations and China-South Australia relations thrives on exactly this kind of engagement: maintaining exchanges at all levels, showing consistent goodwill, pursuing mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, and translating shared commitments into concrete action.

On one end of this new route is Shanghai, China's most dynamic international metropolises and the gateway to the Yangtze River Delta, a region with highest standard of living. On the other end is Adelaide, one of Australia's most attractive cities, and South Australia, a state with vibrant growth prospects.

This route makes it easier for Australians to discover an ancient yet modern China, and for Chinese visitors to immerse themselves in the unique charm of Australia’s Festival State—all within a journey of just ten hours.

We recently celebrated the United Nations International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations. In that spirit, let us work together to strengthen dialogue and deepen cultural exchanges between our two civilizations.

This route will also provide strong support for South Australia's key development initiatives, including the Project 450 Wine Industry Fund, the Primary Industries Future Forward Fund, ATE26, and the continued development of Adelaide Airport.

We have confidence that this direct flight will bring greater benefits to both sides, foster deeper understanding and inclusiveness, and serve as a Wing of Friendship and a Bridge of Prosperity." He said.
