On 20 September, Acting Consul-General Wang Hongsun attended the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations organised by the Fuzhou Association of SA. The event was attended by approximately 80 members of the overseas Chinese community, including leading figures from the SA Fujian Chamber of Commerce, the Overseas Chinese Association of SA, the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce South Australia, the South Australian Shandong Chamber of Commerce, the South Australian Chaoshan Commerce Association, the Australian Asian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Chinatown Adelaide of SA, and the Chinese Community Association Murraylands, as well as representatives from the Australian Guangdong-Hongkong-Macao Chamber of Commerce, the SA Xinjiang Association and the SA Zhejiang Chamber of Commerce.

Acting Consul-General Wang delivered an address, extending Mid-Autumn Festival greetings to the entire overseas Chinese community in South Australia. He reviewed the magnificent achievements marking the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. He emphasised that President Xi Jinping’s advocacy for building a community with a shared future for mankind, and his pioneering proposals for the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilisation Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative, have injected valuable stability and positive energy into a turbulent world, whilst charting the course for the development of China–Australia relations.
Acting Consul-General Wang pointed out that whenever the moon is full at Mid-Autumn Festival, our thoughts naturally turn to our compatriots in Taiwan who have not yet returned to the embrace of the motherland. The Taiwan issue arose from the nation’s past weakness and turmoil and will inevitably come to an end with the nation’s rejuvenation. ‘Taiwan independence’ has no future; China will inevitably be reunified, and the day of the great reunion of the Chinese nation will surely arrive.
Acting Consul-General Wang highly commended the contributions made by the overseas Chinese community in South Australia to promoting friendship and cooperation between China and Australia. He stated that the Consulate General would continue to uphold the principle of ‘diplomacy for the people’ and, as always, provide high-quality and efficient services to the overseas Chinese community, Chinese-funded institutions and students within our consular district.
The event was characterised by a festive and harmonious atmosphere, with everyone joining together to cut a handmade Fuzhou ‘ceremonial cake’ and offering their best wishes for the prosperity of the motherland and the friendship between China and Australia.
