On March 3rd, Yuncai Mei, the acting Chinese Consul-General in Adelaide, went to Flinders Medical Centre to visit the family of Mr Yucheng Zhao, a Chinese tourist who had been hospitalized after suffering a stroke.

Mr Mei asked about the treatment the patient had received. Mr Zhao suffered the stroke while travelling in South Australia and remains in hospital receiving treatment. Mr Mei told the family of the patient that he had been very concerned about Mr Zhao’s situation after the Consulate was informed. In order to get to know the patient’s situation and keep track of treatment, a consulate officer was instructed to keep close contact with the patient’s family and the hospital. It is an obligation of the Consulate to offer assistance to its nationals in difficult times, so the Chinese Consulate will provide as much help as possible. The patient’s family showed their appreciation for the visit from the Consul-General.

The Acting Consul-General also met with the doctor and expressed his gratitude to the hospital for Mr Zhao’s treatment, expecting the patient to be given the best treatment possible. The hospital surgeon said they would do their best to enable Mr Zhao to recover.

The Consulate reminds Chinese citizens who travel to South Australia that they should purchase medical cover in their travel insurance. To avoid the risk of incurring enormous medical expenses, they should make sure their medical insurance covers overseas treatment.
