On August 14, Consul-General Mr Cai Siping and his wife called on Hon Russell Wortley MLC, the President of the South Australian Legislative Council and his wife Dana Wortley MP.

Mr Cai said that China-Australia relations are developing smoothly and the friendly cooperation between China and South Australia have been progressing well. China's economy achieved a 6.9% growth rate in the first half of this year, and will maintain a medium-high speed for development in future. It will provide important opportunities for the development of bilateral relations and the pragmatic cooperation between China and South Australia. Mr Cai introduced the economic and social development of Pearl River Delta and other regions of China, and invited Mr and Mrs Wortley to visit China to experience the development and changes of China in recent years personally.

Mr Wortley welcomed Mr Cai to South Australia and said he once visited China as a member of the Australian Young Politician Delegation in 1985. He was given a warm reception and had a very good impression of China. The South Australian Legislative Council attaches great importance to the exchanges with China and would like to continue strengthening communications with the Consulate-General and provide necessary assistance.
